Rick Miranda, ASA
Principal
Mr. Miranda is an Accredited Senior Appraiser, a well-respected designation bestowed by the American Society of Appraisers. He has worked for Houlihan Valuation Advisors as a Business Valuation Consultant and Expert Witness since 2001 and been a Principal in the Salt Lake City office for more than 15 years. During this period Mr. Miranda has served as President (2008-2010) and Vice President (2018-2020) of the Salt Lake City Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA).
Prior to joining HVA, Mr. Miranda served as Chief Financial Officer for a gift certificate company, worked for a venture capital firm, was Director of Investment Banking Services at the American Stock Exchange, and worked for four years on Wall Street for Lehman Brothers and Oppenheimer & Company as an international investment banker. Prior to that, he worked as a Financial Analyst for Dole Fruit Company in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He also was a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay where he was a cooperative adviser and wrote a grant to receive funding from USAID.
Mr. Miranda holds a Masters of Arts in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University where he was a CIGNA scholar, focusing on International Finance. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Lawrence University, where he completed a double major in Economics and Government Studies.
David Dorton, CFA
Principal
Mr. Dorton is the co-founder of Houlihan Valuation Advisors and a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Prior to founding HVA, he was Managing Analyst for Wasatch Advisors Consulting Group. He also was a Financial Analyst for JPS Financial Consultants. Mr, Dorton has valued businesses in diverse industries for more than 25 years, primarily for Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and estate planning purposes. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and an MBA degree, both from the University of Utah.
